Stream bank stabilization was accomplished using rock-filled gabions. Five sections of the creek were contained using 3 feet x 3 feet corrugated wire gabions filled with river rock. Six and 12 feet long gabions were used end-to-end to contain the creek flow along the entire length of the sloughed areas. The gabions were dug into the stream bed to a depth of 1 foot and the rock filling was done by hand. The process provided a compact rock wall that contains the stream flow and has stopped erosion at each of the sloughed areas. The sloughed areas were back filled with soil to restore the banks above the gabions to a 45 degree slope. Banks were sprayed with a hydro mulch spray of seed, mulch and tack fire to re-seed and stabilize the areas.
